MIA to Sunset Harbour
The bay-side corner where locals eat, train and keep their boats.
Distance
12 miles
Drive time
25-40 min
Fare
from $89
Sunset Harbour is the corner of South Beach that faces the bay instead of the ocean, and it behaves accordingly. Tucked into the northwest edge of the neighborhood around Purdy Avenue and Twentieth Street, it is the part of the beach where locals actually run errands: a marina full of weekend boats at the Sunset Harbour Yacht Club, a wall of boutique fitness studios, and a restaurant row that fills with residents before the tourists have picked a place on Ocean Drive.
For arriving visitors, that local rhythm is the appeal. Vacation rentals and condo stays cluster here, Maurice Gibb Memorial Park gives the little ones a playground with a boat-ramp view, and the Fresh Market on Twentieth means your first grocery run is a two-block walk. You are still fifteen minutes on foot from Lincoln Road, but you sleep on the quiet side.
The drive from MIA is about twelve miles, and Sunset Harbour gives your driver options. The standard run takes the MacArthur Causeway and comes up Alton Road; when Alton backs up, the Venetian Causeway drops in almost at the neighborhood's doorstep - a slower, prettier bridge that often wins during beach event weekends. Twenty-five to forty minutes covers nearly every arrival, and the fare is locked before the wheels move.
From $89 in a Business sedan, with your flight tracked and the driver waiting inside MIA arrivals. Boat day on the schedule? We regularly deliver crews, coolers and rod tubes to the marina docks - the Business SUV takes all of it in one trip, and a $75 local ride gets you back from dinner at the harbor when the sunset has done its thing.
