MIA to Ocean Drive

There is no address in Florida that says vacation quite like Ocean Drive. Ten blocks of pastel Art Deco hotels facing Lummus Park and the Atlantic, with the Colony Hotel sign glowing blue after dark and cafe tables spilling onto the sidewalk from Fifth Street up to Fifteenth. From Miami International Airport it is about a twelve-mile run: SR-836 east, over the MacArthur Causeway with the cruise ships lined up on your right, then off at Fifth Street and straight toward the water.

The causeway is the whole story on timing. Midday and mid-morning you can be curbside in twenty-five minutes; weekend evenings, or when an event closes lanes on the beach, forty is more honest. Your driver watches traffic before leaving the airport and takes the Julia Tuttle instead when the MacArthur stacks up, so the quote you booked never changes even when the route does.

Drop-off on Ocean Drive itself takes local knowledge. The strip narrows to slow one-way traffic between Fifth and Fifteenth, and on busy nights the city closes blocks entirely.
